I'm lumping together the two "actually good" categories of movies I saw in the theater because, really, after posting about the so-bad-they're-brilliant movies, I've just lost a lot of the oomph to keep going. So here we are, two weeks into 2012, finishing off my remembrances of 2011.

2011's Actually Good Movies

I wanted to get to the So-Bad-It's-Brilliant category right away, but I have to stop first and pay respects to the other milestone on the way to the better movies.

I hope my friends and the internet won't crucify me for saying it, but I didn't really like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Look, I had low expectations. Every Harry Potter movie has been okay. They're not as good as the books ever, and I'm okay with that. It's Friday. I so rarely get the weekend itch, but today I have it. I stayed up all of half an hour later than my usual last night, and I'm paying for it today. I can't really say that this wouldn't be a great idea. Obviously, we'd need a break of about a decade or two, and I don't think this could be reliably done with live action unless a lot of things about doing television change any time soon. But an animated series would be good, and it would do better than the films have done.

Yeah, that rumor that was both dated and premised on, like, a fake Twitter account about the BioShock movie was--shock!--fake. I'm not surprised. This Kotaku update is really just confirming what I'd already heard--that expense was prohibiting the movie from going forward. Understandable, if lamentable.
